Antioxidants – important protection for our cells
Antioxidants, how could it be otherwise, are mainly found in fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C, E, B2 as well as zinc, beta-carotene and selenium are certainly the best-known nutrient representatives when it comes to fighting free radicals. And the free radicals? These are caused by highly reactive oxygen compounds such as too much stress, nicotine, environmental toxins, UV radiation, drugs and poor nutrition. Now, of course, one can object that free radicals are not a recent phenomenon, but a millennia-long companion of humans and animals. So why is this topic so immensely important to us? Well, unlike our ancestors, our modern lifestyle unfortunately contributes to increased oxidative stress. Being constantly on call, high levels of exhaust pollution, a variety of medications, little exercise, unbalanced diets coupled with too few nutrients in our foods, all unfortunately encourage free radicals to act in a carefree manner
