“Bringing everything into balance is good, bringing everything into harmony is better.”
What is alkaline? What is acidic?
While acids are free, positive hydrogen ions (H+), bases consist of one hydrogen and one oxygen atom (OH-). To measure the value of acids and bases, the concentration of hydrogen ions is analyzed and represented in the form of the so-called pH value. This can be between 0 and 14 and is at home at 0-7 in the acidic range and from 7-14 in the basic range. If the pH value is 7, the positive and negatively charged hydrogen ions are in equilibrium!
Most of us are pretty acidic
Stress, environmental toxins, nutrient-poor foods, an unbalanced diet with acid-forming foods and the intake of medications can nowadays frequently promote the formation of excess acids in the body. If a so-called overacidification (acidosis) then exists for the first time, harmful bacteria and also microorganisms may rejoice, because an acidic body environment is the key for numerous health problems such as:
- Tiredness, sleep problems
- Bad, oily skin, pimples and impurities
- Dental problems, tooth decay
- Overweight, water retention, lymphatic congestion
- Muscle tension
- Increased sweating
- Cellulite, hair loss
- Circulatory problems, e.g. in the brain, legs
- Chronic renal insufficiency
- Metabolic diseases such as diabetes
The insidious thing about such hyperacidity is that one is often not even aware of it and many orthodox doctors do not really take it seriously. Often only one symptom is considered in isolation and this is treated with medication. This approach ultimately means that the body often struggles with hyperacidity for years and the condition steadily worsens. A vicious circle from which, however, there is definitely an escape.
Out of the vicious circle
Once you have chronic acidosis, it is of course important to know how long it has existed and how severe it is. To determine this exactly, a laboratory test will help you, because pH urine test strips are unfortunately not very meaningful. They do not determine the acidity of your tissue, but are merely a snapshot of your urine on the day of the test. Since urine tends to be acidic to slightly alkaline, acidic urine does not necessarily indicate acidosis.
If acidosis is established, you are sure that your diet is too acidic, or you simply want to take preventive action, there are a few things you can do.
- Alkaline-surplus diet:
This consists of 70-80% alkaline foods and 20-30% acid-forming foods. You can find a nutritional table here.
- Sufficient fluids:
Best you rely on good purified water or drink unsweetened also alkaline teas – of course enough.
- Alkaline minerals (such as VitalBASE®):
You provide your body with alkaline minerals, so that all incoming acids can be neutralized – in addition, your body’s own depots are replenished.
- Elimination of waste products:
So-called slags are former acids that the body has neutralized by means of minerals and stored in the form of salts (slags). These stored slags can lead from a certain amount then also in the consequence to different health problems and diseases. Exercise, sauna sessions, massages or alkaline baths (1-2 times per week for about 45 to 60 minutes) and wraps can help you to get rid of existing slags.
As you can see, it is not that difficult to break out of the acid cycle. In case of doubt, however, we always advise you to ask your alternative practitioner or therapist. But we are also happy to be there for you when it comes to alkaline support with our products. First and foremost, we would like to recommend our VitalBASE® with apple pectin, because it provides you with valuable alkaline minerals and trace elements and also contains important fiber.
